I don't want to give false information here and it's been a while since I looked into this but this is what I remember... There were arguments over whether LND should adopt BOLT 12.
Arguments against:
-LNURL & LN Addresses work just fine
-"LNURL is great for businesses" which is somewhat valid because people like using human readable addresses
-BOLT 12 has a lot of stuff in it; it could be bloated so let's be careful
-LND devs should just stick to implementing "taproot assets" (which could mean stablecoins and other scam garbage)
Arguments for:
-BOLT 12 implements something called a resuable "offer" that would make LNURL and lightning addresses obsolete in a sense. It would allow people to have the functionality of a lightning address without the human readability part. You would have a QR code or long string of characters.
- BOLT 12 seems to enhance privacy by doing more things over TOR (this I'm a little fuzzy on and it seemed to certainly be more technical at the time I came access BOLT 12)
-I really don't remember all the features so I'll link to the BOLT 12 website.
There was a debate about BOLT 12 vs LNURL at a Bitcoin conference once...
That's kinda all I know so far...
