it's pretty much a rule, if it's itchy a lot, and especially if the itching leads to redness, it's probably either fungus or some kind of microscopic or tiny parasite.
i suffered with a demodex mite infestation in the pre-covid leadup and after the lockdowns started. took almost a year to fully get rid of it. relatively common one but man when their populations are high. it's like, all day, no problem, moving around, not really overly itchy, but when you then go lie down in the dark to sleep, oh, wakeup time, and you can feel them crawling around the hair follicles.
highly un-recommended.
they are common but rare to flare up like this, usually a sign of weak immunity.
probably stuff like drinking too much alcohol contributes to this, indirectly via malnutrition.
