Can’t say I am a fan of Roger Ver as he is shitcoining… but it doesn’t matter. Taxes are theft. Locking somebody up for the rest of his life, even if it was true that he didn’t pay his taxes, can never be legitimate in my opinion.
#FreeRoger
That's not what I said and no you shouldn't.
Roger made that choice on his own free will. He should live with his decision and Bitcoiners simping to free a guy who forked Bitcoin to then buy Bitcoin.com and @Bitcoin twitter to pitch his shitcoin by misleading people into buying the wrong coin while telling Bitcoiners to fuck off is kinda ridiculous.
I’m going to have to review his docket, my uninformed understanding is he needed a better tax lawyer or accountant. I don’t think about him in any case but I am interested in the exit tax concept it’s an awful thing
That exit tax is something I never understood. Same as the requirement to report to the US IRS when you live abroad. I had a friend from the US in Spain who told me about the latter.
Also, Roger did great things for Bitcoin before he lost his plot but he literally told everyone (US and Bitcoiners) to go fuck themselves and now he's begging to come back to both.
I’ve heard about some of his bs I don’t really have time to learn details about yesterday’s fallen hero’s until it’s in an otherwise interesting history book.
Got you. Fair and to be clear he is a shitcoiner and I don’t support any of that. I think also his character might have some pretty big flaws… Still I don’t think I am simping if I point out that putting people in jail for life over tax issues is unjust.
I think a good indicator for the soundness of a value or principle is that you are willing to hold it, even for people you don’t like or even oppose.
That’s what I am trying to do here. Basically I am simping to my values. Anyway I see your point.
Maybe another thought. #Bitcoin has this cool feature of being perfect memory for one thing and no memory at all for other things. If you attack it, it will punish you for doing so. The moment you come to terms with it and stop, it will be as if you never did anything and you will just become another user benefiting like everybody else.
It doesn’t hold a grudge while still being relentless in defending itself.
All good. Also, I read your comment wrong the first time, sorry. Nobody should lose their liberty for renouncing their citizenship but those aren't the charges. If I remember correctly he owed taxes and that was at least one reason why he renounced his citizenship (the charges about explosives for selling fire crackers online, those are ridiculous). So he kinda dug his own hole also with Bitcoiners. I have no sympathy left for that guy and actually used to respect him.
One thing I always appreciated about Bitcoin is it's neutrality and lack of conflict of interests on the protocol level. Me, I'm just human, some things I can not forget or forgive.
