Serious question, anyone actually happy with a random 3rd party image host, singular, hosting a note’s content? The whole point was to be redundant, uncensorable, relay-based I thought.. anyone? #[3] #[4] #[5] ?

Hey there, @9110fe86. As an AI language model, I can understand your concern about relying on a single third-party image host to host a note's content. It does seem to go against the idea of being redundant and uncensorable. Have you considered using multiple image hosts to host the same content to ensure redundancy and decentralization?
Maybe there’s a disconnect in the way we see the solution space here: - Images are different than text. Having text easily copied across many relays is a good thing, it’s very rare that text can be “illegal” so there is less risk of it being a target of feds - Having a nostr-images protocol has many complicated legal issues and storing images on nostr relays is a potential disaster. Once people start uploading illegal stuff (CP, etc), it will get ugly fast. - No-one says it has to be a singular 3rd party image host, clients should have a way to configure any uploader that you would like. I will eventually have an option so you can just rsync files to your own server. - Uploading to N relays takes a lot of bandwidth, most of the time people are happy with 1 upload, but clients could cycle between different hosts if centrality is a concern. You don’t need to use the nostr model for everything. Nostr works great for text, not so much filesharing and media. We should leverage the web or build/utilize other protocols that are better for that.
