Why should we use a traceable currency then? Using something which is built to be surveilled (public, transparent) and then complaining about being surveilled is a bit odd, no? Serious question.

True, not many. But it's kinda like pay join, only a small subset of users has to do it in order to get a huge privacy benefit for everyone. And this will be in the UI eventually.
How does my mom get a huge privacy benefit from other people using coinjoin when she uses bitcoin normally?
i think people will lose faith in btc as a currency and use something else.
