whenever i open #amethyst client it starts to download a zip file of some kind. I always cancel it. any #nostr expert can tell me what it is about? i don't like the look of it image

It's automatically on. Sometimes it doesn't work but it is always identifying which language each post has and if it is not one of the languages active in your Android, it tries to translate to the language used in the OS. When it does, it adds a line at the bottom of the post with a few options.

ok. thanks for the info musashi has the same issue but the translation makes the UX really glitchy. its like updating css as the page loads all the time. is it a google thing? would an f-droid version be better?

thanks for sharing. watched your video earlier on nostr for beginners. thanks again!
Some people prefer the fdroid version to avoid any contact with Google. You will lose translations but also notifications as notifications are done by Google. To answer your question, the Google play version will detect languages of all posts and translate to your local language. You can turn of the translation on a "per language" basis but it will still detect the language. Personally I find it pretty awesome that the whole world can communicate with each other irrespective of their language!
