What about ebonising the wood?
An iron, like steel wool, vinegar solution treatment with an optional tea tannin solution step from what I read, that preserves natural grain.

I meant the song paint it black. I have a black violin too and nothing screams and stretches and it is perfect. I think I have written a horror score for sure.
