I am always amazed that parents have to teach their kids to drive in the US.

They don’t have to. There’s driver’s education you can go to.

We used to have that in our school district. I took it as a kid. You also got a discount on your insurance if you did! But we don't have it any longer. I wish we did. It's a valuable course.
Here in the Philippines we have an increasing number of "Sweet Potato" (Kamote) drivers. (Bad drivers). And it's because many new drivers (Gen Zs) were taught by their uncles, big brothers, etc. Quite recently they discovered that the technical/legal driving schools have been passing their students deliberately in driving exams.
