She and her country are in the Western Hemisphere. Her choice is play ball with the big dog in this part of the world, or be arrested or worse. I suspect Taiwan & Eastern Ukraine, will be learning similar lessons. Naive to think there isn’t communication and some co-ordination between the three great world powers.

The American/European doctrine and the citizens of these countries fundamentally misunderstand what China is doing and even why. For America the world can only be viewed as domains to conquer because eventually someone or some group of people must always dominate a weaker foe if they have the ability to do it. Its an evil ideology that plagued Europe for 1000 years pushing justification for its own evil actions. China's only goal at the moment is to break this cycle not because they want to rule over people or set the rules, its because the very survival of their bloodline depends on others also being free of this imperial doctrine.

I’m not in disagreement that control (beyond what is necessary for legit national security) and conquest is a bad path. Might be my American bias, but I’m in the ‘don’t trust, verify’ camp with China and Russia. Europe (some exceptions in the East) is about a lost cause. Too bad, too. The people, history, culture, and architecture are wonderful.
