I genuinely don't know any first party social media app that isn't shit (just talking about the UX of the app client). Every single one is much more usable on web. Every single one that has or once had 3rd party clients, had many solo devs who made better apps than them. Anyone working at these companies should be completely unemployable if this is their level of competence. Like I understand why they make centralized closed platforms, but I cannot comprehend how they are so bad at making the app they use to serve you the slop flavored ads.
The most usable out of the apps by far is YouTube and even that is completely mogged by newpipe in UX, even if you don't care about the spyware.

These companies have a ton of stakeholders, all chiming in on the development process. Everyone wants their own feature, everyone wants to hit their metrics. In the end, it's almost always a pile of crap that comes out. There's no role like a master big-picture keeper to oversee it all.
