As some of you may have noticed, the 1.5.1 update for #NoorNote is out: • No new features at all. • Lots of stability improvements under the hood. • Overall performance has been improved across the board. Posting and replying feel snappier. Timeline refreshes and mute or NSFW toggles now update instantly instead of rerendering everything. Additional pages load faster. Reply and like counters appear all at once. Login is smoother, with fewer background requests. Mini avatars load as you scroll. • Feeds now recover automatically after sleep, switching networks, or spending a long time in the background, so you no longer get an empty timeline after opening your laptop. Posts that fail because you are offline or a relay is down are queued and sent automatically once you are back online, with their original timestamp. Gaps after long absences are filled in completely instead of being silently skipped. The reaction flicker on double tap is gone, and long sessions no longer gradually slow down. • And my favorite part: instant reactions and zap indicators. When you have a note open and like it or zap it, your emoji or the zap pill appears under the note immediately. No reload needed. And there are plenty of other improvements under the hood too. This was originally supposed to be version 1.5.0, but I spotted a bug right after the release and quickly followed up with the 1.5.1 fix. Please let me know if you find any bugs.

Just look at everything that’s happened on the AI front over the past 12 months. The progress has been unbelievable, even with the tiny scraps of AI that trickle down to us ordinary people. Gemini was a pain to use (and expensive af), and Codex was expensive too and terrible. Claude worked for a while, but it needed massive safeguards to keep it from going off the rails, and it couldn’t even write automated tests 6 months ago. Now the Chinese models are showing up, they don’t need all those safeguards, they write automated tests on their own in the background, and they cost a quarter of what the US models do. The US economy, which is 70 % built around its AI companies: poof 💨. That bubble is going to burst soon. And to all the people who spent last year whining that “AI sucks,” well, too bad. You missed the development and it’s going to be hard for you to catch up. We told you so. It reminds me of the early days of the World Wide Web. My father was at a board meeting of the 2nd largest construction company in Germany, where he was a leading senior engineer. The topic was, “Should we take the internet seriously?”. This was in 1999. The conclusion was, “The internet is just a toy”, while his son had already launched 5 websites. Well, that company never recovered from that mistake. It never played a role on the World Wide Web again.

Pay an AI provider in Sats, choose an agent powered by some of the most advanced models available, and use it to keep developing your Nostr client completely anonymously, without the provider being able to ban you. I think Nostr clients have pretty much reached a point of saturation when it comes to the number of features. Most of the extra features are only used by a small number of people, and some might not even be used at all. From a UX perspective, they’re still in an experimental stage. A few will stick around and become standard, while we’ve simply gone overboard with some of the others. I also hardly hear anyone saying anymore that we urgently need this feature or that feature. Consolidation phase. Personally, I’m going to focus on the timeline, display more event types when they show up, and generally optimize and stabilize the client (like introducing automated tests right now). That is, until the next big thing comes along and supporting it becomes somehow mandatory.

We need to make ourselves and the average person out there understand what kind of corrupt internet age we’re living in right now. It’s like the Wild West, with basically no regulation and no laws that can actually be enforced. Out there, 99% of internet companies are simply evil. They steal users’ privacy data from them against their will. No, tiny print buried in 10 or 20 pages of terms of service does not count. Someone once calculated that if you read all the ToS for every software agreement you sign, you’d spend about 8 years doing nothing but reading them. So hiding things in the ToS isn’t practical. That’s exactly why nobody reads them. You can’t do that. They sell the data to every “partner company” willing to pay for it. That includes everything from location data to audio recordings captured by Alexa and similar devices. It’s all done casually because, apparently, it says so somewhere in the fine print of those 20 pages of ToS. They hand all of this data over to corrupt governments whenever they feel like it. They call it “law enforcement,” without any independent body checking whether that law enforcement is actually justified. On top of that, government agencies and courts lack the necessary competence. And I don’t just mean technical competence. I also mean the long term judgment needed to properly understand and evaluate themselves and the consequences of their own actions. Like I said, it’s just like the Wild West of the 18th and 19th centuries. Oh, and now you can locate enemies and blow them up using rigged cell phones. That’s nice too, especially when you consider that you’re the one paying for your own potential death trap. And all of this is completely normal with 99% of the phones out there, whether they’re Android, iPhones, or whatever else they’re called. It's crazy if you think of that. Everyone is paying an insanely high price just to participate in the digital age. And nobody seems to realize it or even listen. I can’t even get my own mother to stop using WhatsApp. It’s the main way she communicates with me. Isn’t that just infuriating? Why am I writing all of this here, even though a lot of people here are already aware of it? Well, we’ve built walls around our cozy, somewhat protected or fully protected corners. We’re no longer the weakest or slowest animals in the herd, so we’re less likely to be picked off. But there are still plenty of potential easy targets out there, people in our own circles who somehow, and I know this sounds cheesy, need to be rescued from the hands of these plundering, godless, wandering gangs on the internet. And that’s exactly why we’re here. That’s why we’re doing all this in the first place. And we aren’t getting paid for it. The people who are being paid by someone somewhere are usually broken floodgates. They let more corruption from out there flow in than they help build a real safe harbor. No matter how much they act like 'freedom fighters', follow the money. If it comes from dirty industries, there’s a good chance I’m right. So stay clean. Even if you don’t accomplish much, stay clean. And let's make internet history.

That’s such BS. I don’t want AI or biometric data collection features built into the operating system, whether they’re open source or not. I want them as isolated components, as separate software that I can install and uninstall. Just because this TikTok damaged generation wants stupid convenience features doesn’t mean you throw privacy principles overboard. Quick realization: You can actually get by without Nostr if you have a real life. Or in other words, real life stress. We all take ourselves way too seriously.

I hate how normal this fiat routine feels. How the blues you get on Sunday evening is really just dread about the start of the work week.

Just a quick thought. Bitcoin's ATH was around 110K in Euros. That was about a year ago. Forget the dollar, it's even losing value against the Euro. And the Euro has a real inflation rate of at least 15% when you look at real estate and energy prices. That means 110K a year ago is at least 126.5K today. But the price is at 66K € today, so it is about half of what it was a year ago. No sign of going "to the moon" yet.

You know those notes that are basically just quotes pulled from external websites, right? NoorNote supports that too, Nostr internally. You just highlight some text, and then you get a context menu called "Post highlight", and that text gets posted as a quote with the source information under it. There are also browser add ons that let you do this on all kinds of websites. And yeah, some users definitely go a little overboard with it, and end up posting almost every sentence from an article they like. If you don't want to see those notes anymore, you can turn it off in NoorNote now. You can do it either per user or globally in the UI settings. And for Armada groups where you are a member or an admin, you can now also track things more easily. So you will get a notification whenever something new has happened there after a longer quiet period. You get the notification, you can click it, and then check what it is. The old Nostrord addon has been reworked into the more general "Group Chat" addon, and now it tracks both Nostrord and Armada groups. And I think over the course of this year, there will be more to come. This seems to be the year of group chat clients. Everyone is building and experimenting with different implementations. And once some of them reach a certain level of maturity, I will integrate them into this addon, so you don't miss anything from your groups. GLM 5.3 is a monster. You know what it just did on my machine? Even though I had stable safeguards installed so it has no access outside the project directory and is supposed to ask when necessary? Never had experienced something like this before. I'm building a complicated feature right now that I need to live test on noornote.app. Watch this: It just went and grabbed my SFTP credentials from FileZilla completely on its own (yeah, FileZilla apparently stores the password in plaintext on the hard drive, that bastard), then wrote a Python deployment script itself and deployed its changes. Went live. Just like that. Completely on its own. Without asking.
