This creates double standards in my head. First i don't like banning. Especially communication platforms. Than i go to X (which i still use almost as much as nostr) and i see what shithole it became and realize that i would switch 100% to nostr if more people talked about topics i am interested in over here. And it's not that it only became shithole....shithole is downplaying it a lot, it's being nice to it. It's becoming borderline useless for any sort of decent communication and algo is force feeding people topics they have zero interest in.....if X servers burned tomorrow and they lost it all i wouldn't flinch or feel like we lost anything useful. But than again....i don't like bans as solution to anything.... If i wasn't lazy, i'd insert that sweating guy with two red buttons below this text....but i am currently too lazy.

The UK government is turning increasingly dystopian and Starmer is increasingly looking like the Austrian painter before he went on a sightseeing tour of Europe... The Government is actively planning to remove Jury trials from most cases, censoring the internet and social media over the slightest thing that doesn't support the official narrative and is trying desperately to bring in its despised Digital Identity system in an effort to totally control the British people. Added to this, the fact that he is doing everything possible to avoid having elections and changing the rules to entrench his sinister party into permanent power, we have a lot to worry about. So when Mr Trump started collecting foreign leaders, we did have a bit of a surge of hope that he might add Number 10 to the places he recruited from!

I don't quite get the folks here who are on Nostr because X and Meta suck, but they still defend X and Meta because they're poor American BigTech harassed by the communist EU/UK - at least that seems to be the logic of some people here 😆 The problem is, in USA you've got class action which can beat the hell out of fuckers like Alex Jones who got $1.2 billion (!) penalty for his lies on Sandy Hook. EU or UK has no such legal instruments over US companies because no private person is going to hire US lawyers from EU/UK to fight with a multi-billion dollar US company in the US, so they're using legal tools available in Europe in order to take the fight to their jurisdiction. And that's reasonable thing to do.

The thing is that people like us who would switch to another platform rather than tolerate the shithole Twitter became are maybe 1% -- vast majority will sit there an swallow the shit with open mouth because that's how they had been groomed to do by GAFAM since their birth. These laws are written for them -- and to be honest seeing what Twitter/FB does to people's brains I wholeheartedly support the bans.

You know what? I don't really think it's grooming or anything like that. I think it's not understanding how whole thing works. Why are they seeing certain content and that what they see is not good representation of the world they live in. Current X algo is pure fishing for reaction. It will throw at you most disturbing thing, no matter if you follow that content / creators or not just to get an reaction out of you. It doesn't care about anything else in this world. I came there for tech, Tesla FSD, Bitcoin and similar forward looking stuff. I'm European so i expect to get mix content, bit of international, bit local. What do i get? 1% Tesla FSD, 1% Bitcoin, 1% tech, 97% current US politics outrage. Muting and blocking helps a little bit, but as soon as something new happens, i get it force fed by algo and i have to block and mote again. For example, when that police agent shot that woman in a car, i got screen after screen of videos, screenshots and comments about it. And i got both side, not only one side. It's not like it is pushing only one side, like it pushed before (for example when US elections laster, all i could see is Rep / MAGA posts). No....both side, one below other, but what i realized is that i got most ludicrous posts from both sides out there. Posts that are dragging your fingers to comment, to try to reason or tell how you interpret video that was posted. Absolutely zero posts that would say: "It's shame what happened, pray for her family, put video recording on those guys like on cops, investigate what happened and act accordingly." No....only rage and baits from both side. Before that, it's screen after screen of Trump and Greenland, before that Maduro etc. And again, i repeat....i'm European who is following people that talk about tech. Not following single American, European or even local politician. Not even mayor of my town! But X algo doesn't care for what i want. It just wants to trigger me, to write anything to anyone. It doesn't care what i write ether. I could b swearing one side or another and it will show me that side even more just to get as much reaction as it can. And i'm sure 99.9% of users do not understand that. They see certain topic, they react, algo starts pushing it to them, and they think that it's end of the world, that everyone and their dog is talking about that topic because they do not see anything else for pages upon pages of content. They have no idea that they are being played and that they are not seeing real picture, real representation of what average people around them think. All they see is extreme of one side arguing with extreme of another side (of whichever topic) and no middle ground which in reality is most of population. 70-80% of population (i plucked those numbers out of my ass, it's just for illustration of what i want to say) is not represented in the feed. "Worlds town square" my ass. Most of loud morons would be chased off that square if it was real place where you have to look the other side in the eyes. And with that warped image that X is offering it's users, it has negative impact on society because people get wrong idea about what is important and what is not. And i won't even talk about bots.....jesus christ....bots.....bots everywhere. God forbid that you heared some news about for example Ukraine, that something happened there.....once algo thinks you are interested in it.....jesus christ....bots.....from everywhere....username_123123123, post after post with flags of countries in their names and when you see what is their location, it's on the other side of the world or on opposite side of what they pretend to be etc. Twitter was far from good, really far from it, but you could at least tell it what you want, and it would give it to you. If you wanted politics, sure you would get it, but if you did not, than it would mix it up in your feed here and there just to check up on you and your needs (because they change). But it did not force feed you....waterboard you with it.
