It's pretty unlikely that there would be a chain split since it's a soft fork.
And even if there was, without replay protection it would be incredibly difficult to do safely.

Nope.
Nobody is going to seriously suggest doing it unless an existential crisis is looming and the incentives are aligned for success.
To be fair, there would likely be a futures market into which people could sell pre-fork.
