I have spent probably 15 hours the last 7 days working on my local ai setup. Fuck anthropic, google, x, openai. I like how they seemingly defied the government, but I won't be psyopped by marketing stunts (God willing...) The only issue is that I only have 8 GB of VRAM. I'm switching from ollama to llama.cpp to see if I can get better speed when split between VRAM and RAM. If manufacturers care about making money, they will meet the demand for memory. If GPU and RAM prices go back to where they were (and hopefully lower), I think local hosted everything will boom in popularity. Like companies that sell servers you can buy for $5k or something that can provide AI and search capabilities to 10+ people. At least, I feel like I could make a business like that work, with good marketing. Maybe you could market to families and sell actual, traditional servers, with terminals around their homes. That way, they could provide their children censored, filtered experiences on the web. Even if I don't try to make a business out of it, that's what I plan to do when I have kids.
