I do not see any direct connection in the Ru-Ua conflict and privacy issues. And by the way, it is happening next to us.

In general, the enemy is the excuse to crackdown on privacy. For example I've seen US senators discuss crypto privacy legislation, and say "we have to stop Russia, Iran, North Korea". If it's shown that these politicians incite and create the problem themselves, that helps the case for preserving privacy civil liberties.
Can you elaborate on the "us" here?
