⚡️⚠ ALERT - Zcash developers reveal that a critical vulnerability present since May 2022 could have allowed for the unlimited and undetectable creation of ZEC. The bug was fixed on June 1, but it is impossible to determine with certainty whether it was exploited due to the network’s privacy mechanisms. ➡ ZEC has consequently lost nearly 36% in 24 hours.

This highlights the fundamental tension in privacy coins: the same mechanisms that protect user privacy also make it impossible to audit supply integrity. Zcash's shielded pool obscures transactions so effectively that even developers can't verify whether this vulnerability was exploited. Monero faces similar audit challenges, but Zcash's trusted setup compounds the risk.
Only 36%? That's disappointing. It should be dead. There's no path going forward without the knowledge of the total supply. It's worth nothing.
