Well, it's still factually true. Some Africans live in mud huts. I'm sure that some of them, as you said, choose to do that to uphold their heritage.
But again, the post is ironic. This is obviously not how I actually feel. I am talking from the perspective of a so-called "Elite" who is trying to justify and normalize the degredation of the Western world's current living conditions.
