I am very excited to finally announce the opening of Henhouse - the first women-only community on Nostr! Henhouse is built on @Soapbox, and allows users to enjoy all the freedom of Nostr and the benefits of a decentralized and censorship-resistant platform while connecting in a space made just for us. After running Spinster, the largest women’s server on the Fediverse, for 5 years β€” I have learned a lot from the mistakes of that platform. Nostr provides solutions, and I believe it is the future of decentralized social media.

Nice initiative. Good for #Nostr. Good for better communication. How would you actually confirm that everybody is a woman there? Just curious.

I've joined on web and really love the look and feel, perfect for sharing photos as they come out large. Do I have to use henhouse nip5 in order to take part in the community feed? Will it change my nip5 in other clients?

You can still respond on the local feed, but if you want your posts to show up there for others to see then you need to use a henhouse NIP-05:

Ooh that would have been a deal breaker but then I remembered npubs are unlimited 🀘 is this the way all ditto moderation will work? Via nip5 identity?

We don't, but since it's an open network where all content is public anyway, there's limited safety/privacy concerns like other women-only spaces. If it becomes a problem we may have to be stricter with pre-vetting prior to NIP-05 approval, but for now this is the policy: image

Legit question: how do you determine that the user is a women and not some AI generated image with a dude behind?

We don't, but since it's an open network where all content is public anyway, there's limited safety/privacy concerns with infiltration like other women-only spaces. Ultimately if they are behaving in a woman-friendly way and not causing problems, they can probably get away with it. That's the trade-off of being more open and protecting user privacy. If it becomes a problem we may have to be stricter with pre-vetting prior to NIP-05 approval, but for now this is the policy: image

So Ditto federates to NOSTR? I'm liking that! Seems like a killer feature for me. Same privacy control as NOSTR?

Ditto is on Nostr but federates to the Fediverse via @Mostr Bridge, and also implements Mastodon API for app compatibility. , Under the hood, it's the same as Nostr with some Mastodon-flavored bells and whistles. You own your keys, etc.
