Perhaps, because it's as much a hypothesis as the current one, to be diplomatic?
There are a number of areas with a lot of tectonic plate activity.
Yet, the earth is not producing any oil there.
I've heard the hypothesis that oil or renewable because it is produced by some bacteria. That should also be easily tested at any oil field, because such bacteria would be pumped out together with their oil.
