Don’t get me wrong, Damus is great, but it feels like the app slogan should be “the social network you control…as long as you’re connected to wss://relay.damus.io”

What this shows is just how big of an impact there is from @Damus not implementing NIP-65. It’s by far the most popular nostr client on iOS, and until it implements NIP-65, nostr will continue to operate under this “must connect to a few huge centralized relays to get a proper experience” situation. History != discoverability. My counter narrative is that I like damus specifically because it’s one of the few remaining clients where you can actually control what relays you connect to. I’m all for clients implementing NIP-65 but I want to be able to turn off auto-gossip.

we are switching to the gossip model once we switch to the local relay for queries, we haven’t been able to in damus’ current form due to various technical concerns. You can read here why:
