Maybe a little bit. I think it's mostly because anti-social behavior online is often rewarded (e.g., through increased engagement), whereas offline it's often punished (e.g., through decreased engagement as people avoid assholes).

Online you don't have to 'read the room' there is just a continuous assumption you are around "your people". A lot more inner thoughts (half baked ideas) are willing to be written from afar rather than spoken in person. A very different bar.
