Religion is inevitable. Even atheists fall into the trap of pseudo religions or making their non-belief the centre of their believes.
Some Zen masters might come close to living free of religion.

Everyone needs a philosophy. I think that is what you meen.
Religion is a type of philosophy that has a creator in it's metaphysics. It's epistemology is based on belief.
Marxism is also a philosophy. It places the group as a primary existence over the individual. It's epistemology is based on the vanguard (Kral Marx) some how knowing how history is shaping itself.
Both are mystical since knowledge in both is not based on rationality.
Even atheists need a philosophy. And this is where many atheists fall. They adopt a philosophy that isn't 100% rational. This leeds to contradictions. This is part of the reason why many atheists "find" religion or become fascists/racists
