I used to think I wanted this. But anyone who's typed many commands on termux knows that you don't want a command prompt on your phone; you want a proper keyboard. Having the ability to run shell scripts and use a Bluetooth keyboard is pretty key, but the Android/Graphene UI just makes more sense for most things on a mobile device. If anything we're moving to more voice, less typing, even from what we have. I would like a subvocal keyboard though. Talking out loud is less than ideal in public or crowded areas.

By all means, more private, more open, full gnu tools on a mobile device is great, and yea, in desktop move, give me X too. I have done VNC to a chrooted X session on my phone before -- the capability is all there. But if you're using it in your hands, X and CLI aren't a good UI. Android for the most part is. I am annoyed at the audio focus though. I'm a weirdo that'll overlap multiple audio sources and it's almost IMPOSSIBLE on Android. Rocket Player let's you ignore focus and is how I've been doing it, but it has ads... yuck. Visual anyway, not audio. It lets me play binaural beat tracks behind music I pull up on newpipe and things like that.

Never thought I'd be pining for Pulseaudio... Jack would do fine too though. Not sure if OSS would handle it -- fairly sure ALSA can't without an abstraction layer.
