Do you have to use your own email server, or is it a privacy improvement to do it?
I think ecash is needed to send messages in keychat, what could be good to onboard new people to ecash through keychat, but could also a to big of a hurdle to start using it

its a big privacy improvement to have your own but you can spin up an account using one of theirs easily.
I agree about ecash, but it seems like the idea hasn't caught on at all.
Would be nice to have an easy option for start9 or umbrel to set up an e-mail server and serve it to friends/family for deltachat (if possible and makes sense)
Keychat users can choose which message relays to use — both free and paid ones — and they can also delete the default Keychat relay.
Therefore, it’s completely possible to use Keychat even without any ecash sats.
One of the reasons we built Keychat is that Signal only allows users to use servers operated by Signal itself. In contrast, with Keychat, users decide which message relay to use — we never force anyone to rely on a specific relay.

Thanks for the response.
Good to know, that one can use it completely without ecash. So it could be possible to use it as daily messenger app with friends and family more easily.
