🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE Binance confirms it was hacked. All deposits and withdrawals are suspended. Binance says it will cover all losses. 🏆 This is now the largest crypto hack ever. About US$2.76B in ETH on-chain plus 18,267 BTC (per mononaut) already tops Bybit (US$1.46B) and LuBian (US$3.5B). 🧊 Frozen: about US$3B per Binance, more than US$2.83B per ZachXBT. - Tether: 1.567B USDT - Circle: more than 800M USDC - Ripple: RLUSD (no amount published) - Arbitrum Security Council: about US$30.5M Arkham has now made the attacker entity official, so the US$5.8B+ figure is no longer just user-made labels. https://arkm.com/explorer/entity/binance-hacker-2 Likely culprit is Lazarus Group (North Korea), per ZachXBT. Not confirmed. Binance hasn't confirmed a total yet. Not your keys, not your coins.

🚨 Binance may have just suffered the second-largest hack in crypto history. About US$2.7B left through addresses you can verify on-chain, all of it on Ethereum. Etherscan already labels the receiving address "Binance Hot Wallet Exploiter". Roughly US$2.3B is already frozen: Tether froze 1.567B USDT and Circle more than 800M USDC. The rest is ETH and other Ethereum tokens. Binance hasn't officially confirmed a hack. It's calling it a "technical error" on withdrawals. You may see a US$5.8B figure going around. It comes from a user-made label on Arkham, so it isn't confirmed. Not your keys, not your coins. 🫡

The $2.3B frozen in minutes deserves more attention than the hack itself. Tether, Circle and Ripple all acted without a court order. That is not a response to the attack. That is the same centralization that made the attack possible, now working in reverse. One of those is called theft. The other one gets called protection.
