Years ago, while standing in the self checkout lane at the grocery store, I was the next one in line. There were 4 scanners. One was not operational. One person had a huge cart full of groceries to scan. One had just begun their transaction. The other was buying just a few things and was clearly the next check out kiosk that would be available for me, so I was watching them.
They got to the point where they needed to render payment but they seemed like they’d seen Medusa’s face and had been turned to stone. I waited for them to continue with the transaction but they stood there, frozen, for what seemed like way too much time, even though it was only seconds.
My impatience got the best of me and I, as politely as I could muster, asked them “Did you do what the screen is telling you to do?”
This seemed to loose them from their stone prisons, however at that moment, I decided to come up with a David Letterman style top ten list of places to go to reaffirm my lack of faith in the future of mankind.
Roads were at the top of the list, as were internet message boards, chatrooms, and social media in general, as was the Oval Office.
Obviously supermarket self checkout lanes made the list.

I was actually coming back from the store when these assholes decided to cut me off. Patience seems to be nonexistent today. Cops are of no use, of course.
