yeah, i saw that some time back for the first time in relation to this whole thing. russia wasn't mentioned in it when i first saw it. i think it's more of a reference to cold war and the 50s, when the word "automat" was what we now call a vending machine. also, kompromat is kinda also german. in the balkans especially yugoslavia german is the second language. epstein was the kompromat pimp. are they gonna say that he's a russian asset now, in light of the fact that he clearly was working for the CIA?

for me, the fact that the most toxic, delusional people in american politics are obsessed with blaming russians for everything makes me like russians. having actually spent some time around russians, some of them are cool. most of them are very insular and cold. so i don't like the modern russian culture so much, but i sure as hell like communist americans less. at least the russians aren't under a communist system. sure, it's still basically a dictatorship but that isn't a disqualification for being an ok place to live. you could say the same about bhutan or luxembourg. or my own house, when i hold the title to it and the visitor doesn't have a warrant.
