Guess most people don't want to be confronted with the truth. They can't handle the cognitive dissonance and "hope" it will not happen/become that worse.... Kind of Stockholm syndrom.

Yea, I do. Guess most have a phone these days. But my point was related to the hurdle of people taking action such as at political level (strenghen human rights, disable tracking in cars and phones etc). I'm aware that currently it's almost impossible to escape suveillance/data collection.
