That’s how I feel too. It doesn’t make any sense, but there’s this huge group in the UK that won’t say why they like it. It’s really confusing.
British citizen living in the UK here. Child rape is illegal here (age of consent is 16). People convicted of child sexual offences are placed on a list that is public, much like USA, I believe. They are ostracized by their community for the rest of their lives after their sentence is served. There is no culture of acceptance of child abusers in the UK among the populace.
The political class is a different story. But then you are also paying taxes to pedophiles. So basically it's the same.
