they send a message politicians want one singular thing - re-election in the time I’ve spent posting the link, signing it, and responding to your comment, the petition’s signatures have risen from 190,000 to over 209,000 virulent outpourings of public condemnation gets the attention of politicians, if only for their self-interest’s sake

It worked when the government tried to sell the forests and about 10 million people signed it and they had to back down.
