Totally normal not to expose a bug until people have time to upgrade. Odell’s mistake was not intentionally fooling people but rather fully trusting someone (NVK) and as a result pushing a product he didn’t understand. There’s no scenario in which guys like Odell were aware for the last 5 years that there was a bug like this in the code.
