What is the nostr equivalent of creators collecting phone numbers and emails…? Let me explain: On apps like Instagram/TikTok/YouTube, many creators will attempt to take their audience off platform and eventually capture some info like name, email, phone number. This allows creators to: 1. Own their audience (reducing platform risk) 2. Have closer communication channels with their audience With nostr, it’s apparent to me that Number 1 is solved for… But what about number 2. What exists for this today? Some form of community, more direct communication, super-follow, etc. Does something like this exist? Is there even a need for this here? 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Products need to be more creator-friendly, and less “social app” in order make #2 easier. Would love to show you what we’re doing with @Satlantis: Social Events considering we’re building it exactly for this reason and for creators like yourself
In a way I feel that nostr IS the solution to those problems on other platforms. That said, there have been some attempts at creating communities on here. Satellite.earth is one example. @PABLOF7z recently posted about making nostr better for communities in the new year. Not sure what specifically he has in mind but he’s one to follow if you don’t already.
What is your definition of a communication channel? I think this can be any Nostr client with unique, specific features to create and maintain that close relation with your fan/customer. Many of the statusquo channels are platforms…
Great question. Stoked to see what the builders build. I think @Max DeMarco has shared thoughts on this. So many chat apps in the works that I’m bullish on for many reasons. This being one.
Yes, the previous solution were based on a standard that was obvious wasn’t going to work and a few of us said so at the time; we’ve been working on a different solution, NIP-29, that has A TON of momentum behind and that I’m fairly positive will work. To be clear, what @Mike Rama is saying here is EXACTLY the use case I have in mind for both Olas and specially Highlighter; my wife and many people in my close circles are described by what Mike is mentioning here; in fairly confident that what we’re building now completely enables that use case completely supercharged compared to existing siloed solutions.
No, it doesn’t; nostr supercharges #2 You can have the best of both worlds: distribution AND true ownership of the relationship, including within a closed, private community. Smart creators have taken control of the relationship with their audience by taking them off platform at the expense of a) fighting their top-of-the-funnel channel and b) sacrificing reach/distribution.
creatr.nostr.wine flotilla.coracle.social chachi.chat highlighter.com ...simply talking & engaging seems to go over pretty well with people, though. There's quite a bit of value in not being farmed for value but in being treated decently. That may sound virtuous but pay attention to what happens in replies.
There are emerging solutions for private telegram- or discord-like groups. The conversation on nostr kind-1 can get kind of noisy. I hope we see the emergence of high engagement and high signal group conversations in 2025
I personally delete after one month all the personal data of the people to whom I sent my paintings. I maintain contact only here on Nostr and exceptionally some on Simplex and Telegram. Privacy is a top priority.
i have no need for comunication channels or the idea of an audience. my writing is a practice and it is a part of my overall practice. i'm not writing to gain fans, capture an audience, or develop a community or the idea of one. read me or don't, it's all the same and not my choice to make. i'm here because i can make whatever i decide to make here, without algorithms, censorship, or other people's ideas getting in the way of me expressing me. that is my 2 sats worth. other people have different ways, means and needs. they'll say their piece as well. in Gassho DF / SF
Yeah, but it'll have communities too. Imagine a "fitness community" or a "creator xyz community" Where each community is an interoperable microcosmos of nostr, from chat, to forum, to commerce, to live streaming; etc etc. Instead of fighting the platform, if you want to sell something to your audience you can bring commerce, a merch store, whatever, right within your community. Olas/IG-type use case can be the main medium through which a community forms around but then each community can leverage any other use case without needing to try to drive traffic away from any platform.
No, only here. I deleted all my other accounts to focus all my energy here. Highlighter is in a very raw state at the moment as I'm rebuilding pretty much all of it. But you can think of it as a Substack where distribution happens organically for all content, and where each interaction between audience and content (even paid content) is an organic amplification of the creator's reach (If I find something worthwhile in your paid newsletter and create a highlight of it, that highlight goes to all the people that follow ME and natively links to YOU: all my followers can see what your stuff is about right from their Primal or Damus feed and perhaps even subscribe to your newsletter right from their microblogging feed)
In theory would this only work on olas or it’s something you think all other clients would eventually integrate? Appreciate your thoughts on these topics - this fascinates me
any client that wants can integrate. I honestly wouldn't be working in any of this if I didn't think economical reality will make other clients *want* to integrate. (I gave a talk that touches on some of this topics a few months ago with @miljan about clients *wanting* to lean into openness instead of trying to build their own walled-gardens for selfish reasons; not sure if there's a recording of that from the Nostriga conference) there are multiple NIP-29 clients (the standard this works with) being built right now, so I think client supply will blossom in the upcoming months -- they are all still super super early, to the point of not even being alpha. I think there will be a fury of both supply and demand for all of this, as it solves a quintessential problem of the internet that creators have had to work their way around in the past few decades. this stuff utterly fascinates me too
Can you explain how this works? Is this something a user would opt in to similar to how an email is given in fiat social platform marketing?
Legendary. The current version is very alpha. The next release is end of this month / early next, and it will include the first version of the app. I’ll DM you with the test flight as soon as it’s live so u can be one of the first to play with it 🤝
