What is going on with #amethyst new version auto connecting to hundreds of relays? Is there a new relay architecture I'm not aware of? Hope this doesn't kill my battery.

Outbox model. It's the new normal. :) just select 3 relays for your posts in public outbox and public inbox and amethyst will do the rest to find all your follows relays.
Yeah, I use the outbox model. Is the connected relays the aggregate list for all my follows? I didn't imagine there could easily be so many.
Yep, if every follow has 3-4 relays, it should be about 3-4 times the amount of people you follow. Below in your relay list screen, you can see which follow is using which relay. Relays all the way at the bottom have the least amount of shared posts with other people.
