We have a Premier1 electric fence around their free range area. I dump a full truck of arborist wood chips out on a section of my yard, put the birds in there for a year, then use that for a garden the next year... This Spring I'm building a permaculture orchard where there at.

Yeah, it's worked well for the last few years. I screened the wood chips, and added in bunny poo and biochar to make raised beds, and the gardens have done great. Last year I charred some 2x6 boards to make some nice raised beds. I use cattle panels for arches as well as cutting them in half, and using electrical conduit as frames for upright trellises. image
