Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway automatically and involuntarily leads to experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. In simpler terms, people with synesthesia might "see" sounds, "taste" words, or "feel" colors. For example: Someone with grapheme-color synesthesia might see specific letters or numbers as inherently colored. In chromesthesia, sounds such as music or voices might trigger the perception of colors. With lexical-gustatory synesthesia, certain words might evoke specific taste sensations. Synesthesia is not considered a disorder; it's usually harmless and can even be enjoyable. It varies greatly from person to person and often runs in families.
