Not really. A personal inbox/outbox relay is cheap or near nothing to run. Now, large public relays are a different story. I don't make a sat from nostrelites.org but a lot of people use it. Perhaps these relays die off in the future and smaller, cheaper relays are the path forward.

The Damus team can barely keep their doors open and they’re one of the most successful projects on Nostr. Chris Dixon is convinced protocols alone don’t have a path forward. Blockchains & tokens can transform protocols from altruistic utilities into thriving ecosystems. Why would a bright young engineer build on Nostr if there is little to no economic incentives to do so? @fiatjaf @jack
