Don’t feel bad. I spent an extra two hours getting into the boot menu on a laptop I was flashing Linux onto because on startup it was polling the USB ports and deactivating the main keyboard till after boot because I was using an external keyboard. Two hours of trying DEL, F12, F11, F1, F2 several times and watching it slowly boot to Windows 10 instead of the BIOS menu. 🤦‍♂️Thought I was losing my mind. I woulda swore this one was F12. It was, but only on the USB keyboard lol. On the bright side, this 8 year old laptop bound for the scrap heap is snappy as hell now, isn’t actively sabotaging privacy, isn’t trying to sell us something 20 times a session, and isn’t supporting the MS empire. It leaves only one Windows 10 machine in the house for gaming that never sees any browsing activity other than terminal sessions on nodes/file servers. It’s great to repurpose old laptops. This one is a great addition to the entertainment unit, stereo system and for streaming to the BT speaker in the back yard. And for others in the family to browse and email with. It’s also nice knowing that since it is on an encrypted volume, we can take this one on the road knowing it is a dead stick if it is lost or stolen.
I once spent a week troubleshooting a massive CNC machine running windows NT, because we thought PC wasn’t communicating to the giant machine. Turned out, the CRT monitor was just missing the color green, and the text color was exactly #00FF00, so we literally just couldn’t see the output. So dumb, lol.
