I agree that a reaction is better than 1 sat. Having said that, look at these reactions, I get more reactions from you for this than anything else 😳. There’s something else to be said about passing a value judgement on “not zapping enough” and something else to be said about “voting with money” but this note is getting too long.
What are you talking about? I think how much you zap and how often you zap says a lot about you. Since you zap everything with one sat, it means that you view all interactions as low value. I react sometimes, I zap when I want to indicate I liked the content a lot, and I’ll do a big zap if I loved it.
The term vote implies the action carries one of two values but zaps give you also magnitude so it tells you more. That alone means “vote” is not the right word. On top we can react with emojis each of which carries information distinct from “yes/no/abstain” so again I think “vote” is not the right idea. All that said, haven’t thought about a better label. Just wanted to add that it’s more than just semantics 😅
I’ll be curious what label you come up with. I’ll stop using “vote”… and I would argue there is a slippery slope here. Notes are ideas and when you support a note with sats it means something. Take political donations as an example, politician to me represents nothing more than a set of ideas.

Was about to agree, but considering ₿ at $10,000,000 - would you refuse a dime for your thoughts?

That all depends on how much ₿ you have… For a whole-coiner, you’re probably right; maybe100 sats starts to feel worth the effort. Hold on though.. I don’t even have to squat down to pick it up, or take it to a bank to change it for bills.. Anecdotally, “a penny for your thoughts” in 1534 was probably equivalent to about $10 today, so 100 sats is probably pretty generous for even a really good post. Unless ₿ is only going to 1,000,000.. in which case 100 sats is still worth a banana. In all fairness, nostriches gotta eat *today*, so at $100k ₿ a really good shitpost is probably worth 1000 sats, considering the economy of scale afforded by nostr. Bad on me if I don’t buy back my sats as I use them. Should I feel ashamed of my speck-of-banana-sized offering? Maybe so.
I like the term favor, but that only makes sense when constructing a model of quantifying relationship quality between npubs.
Just say you’re cheap lmao if you’re stacking sats regularly, 21 sat zaps isn’t a big deal. Lazlo doesn’t regret spending all those bitcoin on pizza.
Curiously that guy that recently quit used to circulate big fat zaps as for fun but I bet he fully regrets that now since he quickly moved to begging for zaps and trying to contrive ways to extract them.
The term “politic” stripped to its core is not much more than Nietzsche’s will-to-power. Strip away the moral language, emotional appeals, and lofty ideals… From this perspective, it’s hard to see one as human if one’s not some part politician.
Other humans aren’t trying to “politician” (will to power) my money into their hands. But the actual “Politicians” in government are actively trying to.
I did not. For the sake of argument, I accepted your claim but I made a distinction between politicians and the specific politicians who act based on the general belief of what politicians are: grifters in office.
Maybe in a general model, call it a “will”. Vote → Collective Will Tip → Gratitude Will Favor → Reciprocity Will Donation → Value-alignment Will Bribe → Illegitimate Will Zap → Signalized Micro Will

It’s an article about Fitzgerald’s quote: “the test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.”

Nope, Irish Catholic American. Though I imagine Socrates would have agreed.

Dollars are just a proxy for value. I could have valued it in loaves of bread, or ounces of gold, or days of unskilled labor (how I estimated the $10 figure) but that would just be opaque.

And that “penny for your thoughts” was a silver penny, btw.
