You may hate Apple, but switching to a device made by Google and side-loading an open OS will not take them down. Every Nostrich could smash their iPhone tomorrow, and they wouldn’t give a fuck. The only way to spotlight their hypocrisy is to continue to undermine and subvert their censorship and show the world the power of open-source, decentralized protocols. If we can’t take it violently out of the hands of big tech, all we can do is by some sly or roundabout way introduce something they can’t stop. Super bullish on those continuing to build on iOS, and to those sly devs taking Hayek’s approach here. 💜

Thank you but I only "want" to smash my iPhone with a hammer and "will" actually continue to use my phone for another two years. After that I want to try a linux phone.

I have a Pinephone and haven’t found a suitable portfolio of apps for it or frankly an OS that isn’t buggy.
It's got nothing to do with bringing Apple down and everything to do with individual privacy and rejecting surveillance capitalism.
Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

I've never understood this mindset. Who cares if you take apple down or not. This isn't about vengeance. Its about privacy and supporting open source, freedom loving projects. A few people may not mean shit to apple but they could mean a lot to a company providing privacy centered products.
Another incredibly insightful post from @🥩ℝ𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕘𝕒𝕕𝕖 ₿𝕦𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕖𝕣⚡ The reality of the situation is that a significant proportion of mobile users on Nostr are on iOS. Nostr has grown as a result of Damus more than any other client. Is it more feasible to get all of those users who are locked into apple (for the short term at least) to switch their entire OS? Or is it more powerful to continue to build out tools that support freedom of communication and freedom money, bypassing arbitrary restrictions and censorship from the biggest tech company in the world. I think we do both, but in the short term the latter will have more of an impact.
Compliance and excusing the actions of a corrupt greedy corporation is not fighting the good fight. Sure, there are lots of people left to onboard, and crApple should have clients. They will always be neutered. But these same arguments will not only justify people continuing to use a shitty ecosystem when they have choices, it'll be why they pretend they are somehow doing something meaningful when the inevitably purchase their next iphone. And they will, because apple is a cult, and you guys are in love with your abuser. I don't expect people to throw away their phones or just swap overnight. That's dumb and unrealistic, but yoh whole post basically said that because Apple doesn't care if all of Nostr left, you should do nothing. You're pretending you're some sort of freedom fighter by staying with a shit company and having to find loopholes just to keep up with the rest of the free world so you can continue funding their greed. You're not. It's Stockholm syndrome. How much funding and time that's been put into Nostr development has been wasted now finding ways around crApple's restrictions, or tweaking shit to get an app into play store, when it could have been spent developing better web clients and the protocol? Meanwhile we're about a technical decade ahead on Android right now, because resources and energy aren't being wasted sucking Tim Apple's dick or trying to find ways around the king's edict. You can't change Apple.
You're missing the point DOC makes. Continuing to find new ways to be free of Apple Store restrictions is the way forward, not to give up. Would Zapple Pay have been created if not for Apple trying to stop zaps? Nostr is now more resilient because of this. And we are still zapping.
Apple only cares about their wallet and their market share. These two properties build their image. They do not give a fuck about you while those 2 things are in tact. It has been this way for nearly two decades. Opt out.
You’re part of a fraction of a percent of bitcoiners who understand Nostr. And bitcoiners make up a fraction of a percent of the general population. There will be plenty more bad actors in the “then they fight you” stage besides Apple. Arguing that everyone should just give up an ecosystem that they have invested time and money into, and that they have an emotional attachement with is a losing strategy. Yes, those who understand bitcoin and Nostr, and the importance of freedom tech in general get it. But being rude, and telling people they are being sheep is not going to help onboard the average person using an iPhone, or a Googled android device. Look at the big picture… the android vs apple trope is old and tired. Stay classy, Nostr.
You’re advocating for people to leave the apple ecosystem right now for something open. I’m saying we should continue to focus on ways to subvert their censorship. There are a ton of apple users, telling everyone to smash their phones, buy a pixel, load Graphene is not gonna happen in any significant numbers.
