I think in general a drastic repositioning of the visual appearance of a brand can make a lot of sense from time to time, especially when the brand itself underwent significant change. The former icon maybe had scaling issues due to the color way. But I agree, the new icon is just basic bitch shit 😅

It's fine to rebrand, don't see why Block needed that, but fine. I see some scaling issues with the previous logo, but it could have been worked around with simpler versions for small sizes. The new one on the other side doesn't work at any scale; it needs to be supported by other elements, or else it falls apart; and still will look like a crap.
