Perhaps. Hard to know for sure. However [spam/borderline nonmonetary use] is potentially more dangerous _because_ it isnt viewed by all as a threat - rather it is a potentially slow subtle bug/attack. This makes more sense to me, rather than simply calling it bigger.
An equally _big_ problem in my mind is the current strategy of hysterical urgency by some for chain lock-down - or bitcoin is dead. This is making it much harder to rally around a safe long term fix.
