Imo it doesn't really matter as long as you get the gist of it. At the moment I get enough value from the KJV version in English.
I prefer KJV or NKJV but have started sharing more in NIV for ease of readability for people. I enjoy the older feel for lack of a better term of KJV and even NKJV
I used to focus too much on the different versions of the Bible but now I think this is a mistake. It's like when you fixate too much on a certain tree and disregard the whole forest.
It's true that translation is a bitch and for sure the meaning of the words was twisted over the centuries. This is a great reason why the authors had chosen allegory instead. Even if you don't get the gist of it you pass on the story and maybe your descendants will pick up the job.
It's easier over the ages to read about Solomon, his life and works instead of writing directly about him being a metaphor for the right hemisphere of the brain.
