Its safe. Talking about future stuff entails the danger of being wrong, or the danger of looking crazy. Crazy tends to win, but the desire to be normal wins even more.
Because it reminds us of how far we've come from where we used to be.
The past is known. We can speak authoritatively about the past. There can be shared experiences, which we can relate to eachother through. We can learn from the past. Not learning from the past, we may repeat the same mistakes. Some folks hold onto past memories because they were happier then.
The present is the past by the time one can speak of it.
The future is unknown. People are generally afraid of the unknown. One cannot speak authoritatively about the future without pre-cognitive abilities. Even if so, one will be labeled as a false prophet or worse.
Memories feel mostly good.
