Peer-to-Peer Bitcoin Education & Experiences. Community Educator of the Bitcoin Basin Circular Economy.
Our community library at the @Bitcoin Basin. NZ just got a little bigger! After our visits to the Oslo Freedom Forum and BTC Prague , we brought back some new books, magazines, and articles to share with the community: • Bitcoin for Nonprofits — A guide to help your movement achieve financial freedom • AI for Individual Rights • Sports and Dictators — All three by the @HRF • Top 10 Bitcoin F*ck Ups — And How to Avoid Them by @AmityAge (thanks for the lovely inscription!) • The Bitcoin White Paper — courtesy of @BitBox Our community library is located at the PoW Lab, a free collaboration space for builders working on Bitcoin, Nostr, and open-source projects. Check it out here: powlab.nz
How to orange pill ANY small business/startup (restaurants, food trucks, etc) in few simple steps. Only requirement: a small group of passionate Bitcoiners. Us: “Hi, we are looking for a venue to host our monthly meetup and group events. Would it be possible to book a table for 5–10 people?” Venue: “Sure!” Us: “Great! There’s just one thing, we host our meetups only at places that accept Bitcoin payments. Would you be open to giving it a try? There are zero costs involved and we can set you up in no time, is as easy as downloading an app (wallet). The best part is there’s zero risk: if you decide you don’t want to keep the Bitcoin, we can buy it back from you in cash at the end of the event.” Venue says Yes: they made a sale and gained new loyal customers only for being open minded. Venue says No: they lost a decent sale Its all about the incentives. Spending bitcoin is how you create an incentive to accept bitcoin and this is how we accelerate adoption. This is one of the many reasons why we have gone from 0 to 50+ merchants at @Bitcoin Basin. NZ in less in 18 months. We use @Wallet of Satoshi because of its UX and the very handy POS feature. Showing business bitcoin adoption in the @BTC Map also helps a lot. Particularly in New Zealand, this is becoming increasingly easy as well thanks to Bitcoin-only exchanges like Stacked, where you can instantly spend & replace using lightning. This is how we make bitcoin tangible, real for no-coiners…before they know it, they have started their Bitcoin Journey. Bitcoin is money, but only if we use it as such. Onwards. P.S: So far, nobody has asked for cash instead of Bitcoin at the end of the event, but they have all wanted to learn more about Bitcoin. Once they grasp it is very much like digital gold, they figure it is best to just HODL.
Ready for this one plebs? We are happy to announce that Queenstown now has its very first fine dining restaurant featured in the Michelin Guide accepting Bitcoin. Exceptional food and world class wine matching will now taste even better, as you can pay in sats. Welcome Toast & Oak to the @Bitcoin Basin. NZ
Our next monthly Meetup is happening at Altitude Brewery on Thursday, 20th August at 5:30 PM! @Bitcoin Basin. NZ now has 55+ local merchants accepting Bitcoin 🧡₿ If you own a business and would like to learn more about accepting Bitcoin, meeting other Bitcoin-friendly businesses, or becoming part of the Basin, this event is for you! But of course, everyone is welcome! Expect good food, drinks, prizes, great conversations, and some special announcements about the upcoming @Sovereignty Summit NZ See you there plebs! image
Please give a warm welcome to 2 new users of the Bitcoin network! Thanks to the support of local Bitcoiners of the @Bitcoin Basin. NZ and Criterion Law Firm, we are able to host very accessible Group Self-Custody workshops every month. Participants learn not only how to set up and use their own hardware wallet, sending and receiving Bitcoin, but also how to manage fees, protect their privacy, buy Bitcoin (including P2P), and much more. Peer-to-peer Bitcoin education is the way forward. image
A major forker in human history. Everyone is welcome to fork, and everyone is free to choose their own path. How do we know which path is right for us if there are no alternatives? One of the many reasons why Bitcoin is freedom. image
The Bitcoin Journey team is honoured to have been invited to speak at #BitcoinAsia Hong Kong on 27–28 August 2026. We will be sharing how global tourism is becoming a catalyst for Bitcoin adoption, along with our experience helping build the @Bitcoin Basin. NZ circular economy through education and meaningful travel experiences. Is there a best way of travelling than going to Bitcoin-only conferences, such as @Sovereignty Summit NZ, supporting growing circular economies, connecting with bitcoiners from all over the world and discovering a different culture, all at once? If you will be at the conference send us a DM, we would love to connect and meet in person in Hong Kong!
Many posts proclaim “Self Custody is dead” Are you kidding me? We are talking about the separation of money and state here, did you think it would be easy? One company that we all “trusted,” and yet nobody verified, caused massive damage because of a bug latent since 2021… Only time will tell if it was negligence or premeditated. A humbling lesson for all of us. Anything built on Bitcoin needs to be as robust as Bitcoin, otherwise it will, and should, be wiped out. Painful? Undoubtedly Necessary? Absolutely We are building the foundations of the financial system for the next 200 years and beyond, they better be rock solid. Time to go back to the basics and truly verify.
The recent Coldcard security vulnerability is significant enough to serve as an important reminder for all of us to review our self-custody practices. That's why we'll be hosting a community support event at the @Bitcoin Basin. NZ on the 10th of August at 5:30 PM in Frankton. If you own a Coldcard, you need to ACT NOW. Please don't wait until next week. Contact us immediately, and we'll help in any way we can. This event is for you if you: - Have concerns about your current Bitcoin setup. -Have questions about hardware wallets. -Want to understand the details of the Coinkite incident and what went wrong. -Want to learn how to generate your own entropy. -Have any questions about Bitcoin or self-custody in general. The event is free and open to everyone. To reserve your spot, please email info@bitcoinjourney.nz image
Hodling is hard enough. But there was a great sense of peace knowing when you generated your private key offline using a reputable hardware wallet. You “knew” that your Bitcoin were “safe” and that your low time preference would eventually be rewarded. First came Ledger, with its “Recovery” service, meaning a third party could access your private key remotely… which made you take action. Now Coinkite, with its lack of enough entropy since 2021, has shown that this sense of being “safe” was a pure illusion. Bitcoin as a protocol is still unbeaten and one of the greatest inventions in human history. It is the foundation for a better future, but now more than ever we need to focus on education and verifying everything. Undoubtedly self-custody is still the way, but the path towards Bitcoin adoption got a lot steeper. We have a lot of work to do. Stay humble, and stack sats safely.
Huge thanks to @thebitcoinshop.nz for this amazing bag of goodies we received at Bitkiwi! Every new merchant we onboard at @Bitcoin Basin. NZ receives a welcome gift basket, so this is exactly what we need! If you are looking for Bitcoin hardware makesure to check them out, they are the best place in New Zealand. Use code TBJ2009 to get 5% off your order. Sovereignty Through Security. image

What is the common denominator among genuine Bitcoin educators? It's all about empowering others. The best Bitcoin educators don't tell people what to think. Instead, they give the people the tools to choose for themselves, freely. Below are just some of the projects, organizations, and people we've had the privilege of meeting personally over the past six months. Every one of them has strengthened our conviction that lasting Bitcoin education is built on passion, not profit. @My First Bitcoin @John Dennehy @Luis @HRF @BitcoinBerlínSV @AmityAge @BTC Sessions @Joe Nakamoto @lunaticoin @Bruno @La Bitcoineta @RodolfoBITS @La Crypta @El Gorila 🇦🇷 @Escuelita Bitcoin There's no doubt in our mind that one day the world will be inevitably Bitcoinized, full of sovereign individuals. How soon we get there though, depends on the work we do today. This is where purpose meets opportunity. Onwards!
🥊 Another milestone for the Bitcoin Basin. We are excited to welcome QFC as the first martial arts gym in Queenstown to accept Bitcoin! ⚡ You can now improve your fitness, challenge yourself, and learn the importance of self-defence through group, private, and women-only classes in Boxing, Muay Thai, MMA, and more. Talking about Proof of Work for the mind and body. Our circular economy is growing by the day, and there is no stopping it. Welcome QFC to the @Bitcoin Basin. NZ family! 🧡
Another fantastic meetup at the @Bitcoin Basin. NZ Great conversations and delicious food at The Meat Preachers, all paid with #Bitcoin. See you on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Our next meetup will be even more special, so keep an eye on our socials, you wont want to miss whats coming!
“Bitcoin has no value. It’s going to zero” Watch us build.
Dear Nostriches If you have friends and family left to orange pill, feel free to send them our way, we are hosting free and practical Bitcoin Workshops wherever we go. Onwards!
@BitBox was already one of our top recommendations for anyone starting their sovereign journey into self-custody. For a few simple, yet very important, reasons: • Open source
• Great UX
• Solid reputation
• Bitcoin-only edition
• Spot on marketing (you can definitely tell there’s a maxi behind it!) After meeting the team behind it at @BTC Prague , our conviction only grew stronger. Special thanks to Pako for the great chat and taking the time to answer all our questions! image
Hyperinflation. Overnight confiscation of the life savings of millions of people (just Google “Corralito 2001 Argentina”). Pretty much every monetary disaster you can think of…Argentina has been there. There is a reason countries like Argentina, Venezuela, and many parts of Africa are among the fastest adopters of Bitcoin. In some countries, the money is not just broken, it has been obliterated. If you want a fast-track through Argentina’s economic history and the unbelievable policies that repeatedly destroyed people’s purchasing power, I highly recommend “Bitcoin Prophecy” by @npub1l9m3...sepm It is important to be on the lookout for the signs…It could and will, in due time, happen everywhere. A hard copy is available at the @Bitcoin Basin. NZ Library.
