While using moStard and noStrudel, I've gotten a few notifications, asking me for permission to install Google Widevine. BLOCK! image #privacy #freedom
Watchman Privacy just interviewed AlaskaAnon about being debanked and living on a cash & XMR standard. It was a great teaser episode, but I'd love to hear even more details on how people can get away from the banking industry and move more fully into the parallel economy. Also, if anyone still uses Twitter, tell AlaskaAnon to get over here to Nostr! #privacy #xmr #monero #freedom
#Privacy hack of the day: Say gm all day long so nobody knows what time zone you're in. 🥸
I often enjoy perusing long-form content on Primal, Yakihonne and other clients. Yet, when I find a particularly long article, I try to save it via Pocket for later reading on an eInk reader. Yet, Pocket seems incapable of recognising Nostr articles. Whenever I go back to read them, Pocket will try to open a web browser on my eInk devices, which defeats the purposes of easy reading on a Kindle, Kobo, or similar device. So the question is, should I migrate away from Pocket to a platform that can properly recognise Nostr articles as such or is there a Nostr client that does something on the back-end that is more friendly to Pocket and similar services? #asknostr #ereader
Ava proposes an interesting model of having a "front-facing web identity" and then a separate private one. In my own case, I never fully deleted my old Facebook or Twitter accounts, rather just preferring to let them lapse into obscurity (not that they were ever popular). Perhaps, it wouldn't hurt to log into those from time-to-time and publish something short now and again to show I still exist in the mainstream world. Then, Nostr, SimpleX, and other platforms and protocols can serve as my day-to-day drivers for real expression and interaction. Thanks for the suggestion, @Ava! View quoted note →
As an educator, I've come to the same conclusion over the years, that we are all counsellors and therapists, whether we have the degrees and authorisations from the State or not. image Forward to The Art of Counseling (Rollo May), 1967 #counseling #counselling #education
I don't know if it's possible, but I'd like to try creating a list on noStrudel that would allow me to follow certain hashtags. Unfortunately, as soon as I tried to open the list feature on noStrudel, I continually received the same error message: "Something went wrong Missing pubkey" Any idea why this is happening? I tried the same thing in moStard and received the same error. #asknostr
For those in the fiat mines, take a look at your middle and senior management closely. Does the Peter Principle apply at your company? It has definitely held true at most every place I've ever worked. #workstr #worklife #management #asknostr image
After some initial research, I think I've got things almost set up to step away from Alby. I've set up nsec.app to sign events on my desktop (with mobile to come later), npub.cash setup to capture any zaps and turn them into ecash, and cashu.me as my default ecash wallet. Now, I just need to figure out how to get back into Yakihonne with nsec.app. I've already used nsec.app to get into #nostrudel so can publish for the moment but would still like access via Yakihonne as well. Yakihonne only seems to want my nsec or a hex, which I can't seem to generate from nsec.app (only a bunker address, which Yakihonne won't accept). If anyone has any ideas, please send help! #asknostr @YakiHonne
With Alby sunsetting their original wallet in favour of their new Hub option, I woke up wondering if there is any comparable cashu/ecash option that I could use to zap on Nostr. I've only just started reading up on cashu, but surely I can find something that would work on both desktop and mobile (Android)? #cashu #ecash #asknostr @calle
Earlier today, I was listening to another New Discourses podcast episode about social-emotional learning, and the host kept mentioning how the SEL devotees want our children to use wearable smart tech so that they can track everything, down to their movements & heartbeats to ensure kids are meeting the behaviour goals set out by SEL experts. It got me thinking that I haven't looked into privacy-respecting alternatives to wearable tech in a long while, and a quick search turned up a neat project: BangleJS. For those that like to tinker, select their own apps, or even write their own code, this looks like an awesome option. Forget all of the data harvesting that major corporations want to get from us, and put in the time to customise your own tech. Teach your kids the same! #privacy #education #edtech
I've seen a few folks posting about @YakiHonne recently. While the interface is quite pleasant to use, does it have any other features that stand out for you? And if you've switched entirely from another app or site, what made you choose Yakihonne over another client? #asknostr
Today is Holodomor Commemoration Day in Ukraine and for Ukrainians all over the world. “Death solves all problems. No human, no problem.” - Joseph Stalin The Holodomor (“extermination/death by hunger” in Ukrainian) destroyed Ukraine and took millions of lives; nearly one-fifth of the country’s population was lost. The dreadful famine that engulfed Ukraine, the northern Caucasus, and the lower Volga River area in 1932-1933 was the result of Joseph Stalin’s policy of forced collectivization. A year or so ago, I vaguely recall having seen a Nostr tool that allowed me to merge my different bookmarks from different clients. Since I've toyed around with a dozen or so different clients, I suspect I've got a bunch of different bookmark lists floating out there in the ether and could definitely use something like that tool. Does anyone know if such a thing still exists, how effective it is, and how to find it? Being able to work with a single bookmarks list on MoStard, Amethyst, and a few other clients would be immensely helpful. #asknostr
It's been, maybe, a decade and a half since I last used a "slider" phone with a proper keyboard but would love to have another one again. It's a true shame that manufacturers stopped making these. In an ideal world, I'd love to combine GrapheneOS, LineageOS or similar with a phone like this. Being able to type out more extensive content and messages on a real keyboard, that's the dream! #tech #nostalgia View quoted note →
