Good morning and pura vida, Nostr! Your nsec is your identity, your followers, notes, zaps, all signed by one key. So keep it out of harm's way: 📱 Remote signer on your phone (Amber, Clave, etc.): apps request, you approve with a fingerprint or PIN, your key never leaves the app. 💻 Signing extension on desktop (Ditto, Alby, etc.): sites request, the extension signs, your key never touches a web page. 🔒 Never paste your nsec anywhere. Not even apps that I promote or work on. Always assume that these could leak your keys at some point in the future. Your identity should require your thumb, face, a PIN, some manual intervention, etc. Keeping your keys safe is paramount. Stay vigilant!

hey @WendyDing i don't know if you're still around and use nostr cc @YakiHonne @Shaun. Wendy's Telegram account is hacked and a scammer is using it to try to get people to download fake Microsoft Teams / Virus. i assumed it was a scam since 1) Wendy and I hadn't talked on Telegram in 2 years 2) we only really exchanged a few messages back in forth around the Global Bitcoin Summit 2024 event and 3) she hadn't posted on Nostr in a while. however, i am always down to chat with everyone, even scammers, to ask them why they chose nostr for their attack and/or chose me for their attack. as soon as they didn't join the normal google meet meeting and offered me a second link, i knew it was this popular scam. i called the scammer out on it, but i didn't get a screenshot of that conversation as they immediately nuked the chat and blocked me. anyways, stay vigilant out there! keep your nostr keys and bitcoin safe! NEVER install new software to chat with someone, even if they're a long-time friend. use the software that you normally use with them. and if they're telling you they can't use it for some reason, be extra cautious. tell them to use Armada :) no download required there!

And it works really, really well. On Ditto earlier, I didn't didn't even realize that we had a spam attack in progress. Nothing is perfect and there is always more work to be done, because spam is a moving target, but I'll say what we have this far is very good. View quoted note →

Reminder during spam attacks: If your client or relays aren't handling spam well, you can always try migrating to WoT relays and using them and only them. Here are a list of some. You do not need to use all of them. One or two would be sufficient. nostr is always under attack. from various spam attacks, to trolls, to bad actors, to even nation states blocking access. freedom will always be a fight. it's a fight that is worth it though. im not going anywhere. are you?
