What if I tell you that there is a big reason why people are so crazy about sports or their idols? Even if from outside looking in, it looks no benefit to the fans. But psychology says it differently. It is called "association". People associate themselves to a team or idols as if "they" are the representation of one's self. Esp considering all is equal, race, gender, town or country. Hence why people from the same country likely to support their country team or idols. Or a team that is similar to them. Some even go their way to wait for 1 hr in the snow to get an old ticket of the match even though they did not watch the match in order to show off to their friends or back home that they were there. It is more deeper than sports, some are defining one's self in the image of their team/idols. When their team win, they win. It is by extension of one's self.
