Session Recap: Learn Chama Own Your Money Yesterday's session with Jetty from Chama was an insightful, interactive session on how Chama enables peer to peer trading with no third parties involved. What is Chama? A peer to peer marketplace for trading Bitcoin, goods, and services within your community no company sits in the middle. Users sign in with a cryptographic key (the Nostr standard) instead of email or password, and select a "community" based on their country and currency. How a trade works: Every trade moves through clear stages Reserved β†’ Locked (funded in escrow) β†’ Delivery/Payment β†’ Released β†’ Claimed β†’ Settled. Safety is built on a 2-of-3 escrow : buyer, seller, and a community arbiter two of the three must agree before funds move. The arbiter only steps in during disputes and can never seize funds outright. Fees: Chama itself charges nothing; a small optional 0.5% insurance premium (split buyer/seller) goes to the arbiter backing the trade. Cashing out: Kenyan users enjoy instant M-Pesa payouts via Tando; other regions can use local partners, Lightning, or onchain Bitcoin. Between trades, balances stay at zero nothing for anyone to freeze or drain. Bottom line: Trust the math, not a middleman. Big thanks to Jetty and everyone who joined from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, and Malawi! πŸ™Œ

On April 25th, 2026, I had the privilege of being invited as a speaker at an impactful event organized by Students For Liberty Africa. The main theme of the session was β€œUnlocking Bitcoin Opportunities for Tanzanian Youth.” It was a truly engaging experience where I had the opportunity to break down key financial concepts, starting from the fundamentals of money to a deeper understanding of Bitcoin. I explored why Bitcoin matters, how it differs from the Tanzanian Shilling, and its potential to reshape financial access for young people. During the session, I also covered practical aspects such as the different types of Bitcoin wallets, with a focus on hardware wallets. We conducted a live demonstration using the Trezor Model One, showing how individuals can securely store and manage their Bitcoin. Additionally, we discussed the Lightning Network and how it enables faster and cheaper transactions, as well as the growing opportunities for remote work where freelancers can earn in Bitcoin. Big appreciation to Students For Liberty Africa for organizing such a meaningful event and continuing to lead Bitcoin education across Tanzania. #BitcoinEducation #BitcoinTanzania #FinancialFreedom #CryptoAfrica #BlockchainTechnology #YouthEmpowerment #LightningNetwork #BitcoinAdoption #DigitalEconomy
