One little tangent that I've pondered about for a long time and this convo here about BlueSky etc reminded me:
A lot of people (like these two in the video) argue that people go to social media "for the exchange of ideas", and that the more debate and variety, the more value a platform has (or so they seem to imply).
I would instinctively tend to agree... but not completely. I think there are some people who look for that, let's say as a replacement for TV, newspapers, etc. or simply for the sport of it. But I also think there is a significant portion of the public that may look for "community".
I think these are two fundamentally at odds functions and audiences. Perhaps we need separation of Debate and Community.
