Tide is fucking turning, people. This is what happens when you fault the technology and not the human error that caused the issue. Then let supposed climate change advocates that don't know their assholes from a hole in the ground to influence progress. "The researchers found that new nuclear plant construction flatlined immediately after Chernobyl. Had previous trends continued, the study indicates that the United States would have built more than 170 new reactors by now. In the late 1960s, the Atomic Energy Commission anticipated that 1,000 mostly fast breeder reactors would supply 70 percent of America's electricity by 2000. Sadly, only 20 percent of U.S. electricity is currently generated by nuclear plants, chiefly old-fashioned light-water reactors that were built decades ago. The economists reckon that the construction of each additional nuclear power plant, by reducing air pollution, could save more than 800,000 life years. "According to our baseline estimates, over the past 38 years, Chernobyl reduced the total number of [nuclear power plants] worldwide by 389, which is almost entirely driven by the slowdown of new construction in democracies," they report. "Our calculations thus suggest that, globally, more than 318 million expected life years have been lost in democratic countries due to the decline in [nuclear power plant] growth in these countries after Chernobyl." They estimate the U.S. lost 141 million life years due to the slowdown in nuclear power deployment." #nuclear #energy #climate #technology

Cox is a terrible company but good on them for fighting the fight against zero due process when they could easily roll over. If it's that easy, I'm accusing Sony of copyright infringement for stealing and copying movie ideas not to mention hundreds of recycled scenes in their distributions. Please disable their Internet service at once. #internet #privacy #piracy

"Operating on a production line, the Figure 02 robot has made a significant leap, achieving a 400% increase in speed and a sevenfold improvement in success rate In a newly released video, Figure 02 is shown performing up to 1,000 placements per day. This represents a milestone for humanoid robots in industrial applications. Commenting on this achievement, Figure’s founder and CEO, Brett Adcock, remarked, “This will only improve as we deploy more robots, collect more data, and improve our AI models.”" #robotics #ai #artificialintelligence #manufacturing

"A California-based developer of microreactors has completed a critical passive cooldown demonstration of its prototype Kaleidos system. The demonstration of the passive cooldown system, which took place on September 17th, showcases the reactor’s ability to safely shut down and cool off without power. The recent test highlighted the reactor’s suitability for deployment even in populated urban areas. Radiant claims that the reactor safety system triggers a shutdown within 300 milliseconds of detecting an emergency condition. he company remains on schedule to conduct a full test of the Kaleidos microreactor at the Idaho National Laboratory in 2026. This would make it the first new reactor design to be operated in 50 years." #nuclear #energy #climate #technology

Very, very cool. Glad to see innovation. "The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved the construction of the first-ever molten-salt reactor that will power the grid in the US. The approval was granted to Kairos Power, which is currently building the Hermes Low-Power Demonstration Reactor at the Heritage Center Industrial Park in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Generation IV nuclear power is the umbrella term for nuclear fission technology, which is designed to avert the leak of radioactive material even in extreme scenarios such as earthquakes and generates energy with much higher fuel efficiency. Molten-salt reactors are one of the many different approaches that scientists are using to achieve Gen IV nuclear power. Here, the nuclear fuel is either mixed in molten salt or embedded in graphite, while the molten salt is used as a coolant, and the operation proceeds at high temperatures. Kairos Power uses the latter approach for its Hermes reactors. " #nuclear #energy #climate #technology
